Decorative Styles: Shabby Chic

Shabby (worn) Chic (elegant), are the words that give name to this romantic style that had its origin in the houses of the English countryside. If this is your style, here we give you all the keys to decorate your home.

As its name suggests, Shabby Chic uses classic-style furniture with worn finishes, and a special emphasis on pastel tones and floral prints. The interiors of the houses are generally white, as well as the upholstery of sofas and armchairs or in the finishes of furniture. All this, adding details in pastel colors.

Basic keys to achieve the style

CLASSIC FURNITURE

Since it's a style that grew out of country houses, you'll find plenty of classic-style furniture... Louis XV, Swedes, Victorians, Italians… in light tones, pastels or natural.

ROMANTIC TOUCHES

Natural flowers, lace, ruffles, prints, soft colors... Romantic and feminine touches are very present in Shabby Chic.

WHITE

The white color is an essential basic in this decorative style. From walls and doors, to furniture and decorative accessories.

PASTEL TONES

Another feature of this trend is pastel accents: furniture, paint, wallpaper, textiles or accessories... They will give that chic and feminine touch to the decoration. And they are also ideal for children's spaces.

FLORAL PRINTS

An essential that can't be miss are floral prints. You can incorporate them into textiles or wallpapers, in bright colors or pastel shades.

THE WEAR OF TIME

The naturally worn finishes of the pieces are part of the essence of Shabby Chic. Generally, it is usually old or vintage pieces, but we can obtain a very similar effect in contemporary furniture.

VINTAGE PIECES

Having an authentic vintage piece is having a treasure. The passage of time gives them that special and unique touch, especially when it is something that we inherit from our parents or grandparents.

Antique shops and local markets are good places to visit if we want to find that piece that will give a sophisticated and authentic touch to your Shabby Chic decoration.
